Pramod Kumar Gupta, who stands accused, earned his mathematics degree in 2013 from a government institution in Ghonda, Uttar Pradesh. Gupta turned to selling stolen phones across Delhi and Haryana for quick financial gains. A total of 52 stolen or snatched mobile phones and 15 motherboards of cellphones were seized from his possession, police said. At least two of the recovered phones have bee linked to cases reported at Khyala and Hari Nagar police stations, an officer said. The officer mentioned that Gupta, whose father serves as a commission agent, is married with two children. The 37-year-old mathematics graduate from Raghubir Nagar in west Delhi was arrested on charges of stealing more than 50 cellphones, officials said on Monday. He was caught after a brief pursuit, according to the officer, who said he failed to provide ownership documentation for the phones he was selling. He is a resident of Sonipat in HaryANA, Gupta was previously involved in a criminal case, the DCP said in a statement.
