Raghvendra Bajpai, a reporter with a national Hindi daily, was shot dead in broad daylight. Police detained 12 people, including three revenue officials (lekhpals), for questioning. Meanwhile, an FIR was lodged against unidentified people on charges of murder. The remains of the journalist were cremated at the Bargadia Ghat bridge in Naimisharanya under tight police security. Uttar Pradesh deputy CM Brajesh Pathak vowed strict action against those involved in the murder, saying \”no conspirator will be spared\” Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai condemned the incident, calling it \”a heart-wrenching tragedy that deserves the strongest condemnation\” He criticised the Uttar Pradesh govt, saying, \”This is a shameful act. The govt must take concrete action rather than making big statements and carrying out fake encounters\” He added, \”If journalists are not safe, how can common citizens feel secure? This govt is silencing up for the people’s suffering\”
