The Gadchiroli police established a new post at Kawande, a former Maoist stronghold, marking a symbolic victory over the rebels. Kawande was the seventh post opened within two years in the region, which was earlier claimed to be the ‘liberated zone’ of the Maoists in their red corridor of Dandakaranya. The post will have 16 porta cabins, a generator shed, a water purification plant, a mobile tower, toilets, and a bullet-proof morcha. The remotest police post of Maharashtra will also have Wi-Fi connections. The security fortification of the area is now expected to expedite development projects, said senior police officials. It will stop the route used by the combined PLGA warriors and dalams from Abujmarh to enter the interiors of Gadchirolli. The strong Maoist influence had kept development away from the region which included poor education, health facilities, and also non-existent road and much-required bridge infrastructure.
