Railway officials have launched an inquiry into the incident, led by Narsingh Deo, principal chief commercial manager, northern railway. The committee has ordered the securing of CCTV footage from the station to aid in the investigation. The incident occurred due to a surge of crowd waiting to board trains to Prayagraj for Maha Kumbh on platforms 14 and 15 at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night. A railway staff member who assisted in clearing the aftermath described it as one of the most horrific incidents he had witnessed. One passenger, searching for his missing son, identified his 12-year-old child’s belongings among those recovered from the scene.
