The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated a comprehensive cleaning drive for the Yamuna River in Delhi, following its recent victory in the Delhi Assembly elections. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pre-election commitment to rejuvenate the river.
Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has outlined a four-phase strategy to ensure the efficient cleaning of the Yamuna. This plan includes deploying specialized machinery such as trash skimmers, weed harvesters, and dredging utility crafts to remove pollutants and restore the river’s ecosystem.
The BJP government has set an ambitious target to clean the Yamuna within three years, aiming for completion by 2028. This commitment underscores the party’s dedication to addressing environmental concerns and improving the quality of life for Delhi’s residents.
The Yamuna’s pollution levels have been a longstanding issue, with previous administrations, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), setting targets to clean the river by 2025. However, these goals remained unmet, leading to criticism and highlighting the challenges associated with the river’s restoration.
The current administration’s proactive measures, combined with the deployment of advanced cleaning technologies, aim to rejuvenate the Yamuna and transform it into a clean and vibrant river, benefiting both the environment and the populace.
