Melissa Mercado, a seven-year New York Police Department veteran, has been removed from active investigations in the Special Victims Division. Her involvement in the “Doin that” music video by rapper S-Quire is now under review, according to an NYPD spokeswoman. Some within law enforcement found her involvement inappropriate, given her role in investigating sex crimes. Retired officer and lawyer Eric Sanders said Mercado’s participation in the video goes against the values of policing. Despite the backlash, Pitch Perfect claims she has received multiple offers to feature in other rap videos since her debut in S- quire’s song. By Saturday, the ‘Doin That’ video had racked up over 1.6 million views on WorldStarHipHop.com. The director of the video said neither he nor the rapper knew she was a detective. “None of us were aware of her main profession,” he said. ‘I’ve had tons of artists reach out trying to get her in their video,’ Pitch Perfect added, laughing, “If you look at it like that, it might be a great thing for her. I think she wins.”
